The 𝐼𝓉𝒶𝓁𝒾𝒶𝓃 Riviera

Travelled to the golden Italian Riviera in May and it set the bar for Summer 2019... For most "riviera" is instantly equated with the "French Riviera" and although they run along the same coastline, the French and Italian Rivieras each have their own unique feel. I love the romance and grit of the Italian Riviera, the sweeping views of the Ligurian sea & the endless gelato options. These photos feature my gorgeous cousin and I as we travelled from Genoa to Camogli to Portofino. I wanted to share this wondrous trip in photos but also through my travel tips and secrets after visiting this sought-out and less travelled destination...

Genoa, Italy is known as a port city and could easily be dismissed at first google as only that but it is so much more. Genoa has the largest historical area of any city in Europe and for that alone is worth visiting. We stayed at "Sky on the Roof" hotel which had an amazing rooftop terrace with views of all of Genoa's glory. We wandered the streets and sunken alleys of Genoa for hours and ended up under the original medieval gateway to the city, Porta Soprano (right near the birthplace of Christopher Columbus). We scouted out the amazing canteen "Cafe il Barbarossa" that overlooks the gate and what started as a quick escape from the rain turned into endless hours chatting with the owners, eating the many tapas and sampling organic wine. From Genoa we took the train 20 minutes down the coast to stay in Camogli. I cannot say enough about this untouched, seafront village. It is the low-key, lesser known neighbour to Portofino but much more affordable for the majority of the world that cannot stay in the luxury capital of Italy. We were able to take the train to a village close to Portofino and hike into it from above which was an amazing way to see Portofino for the first time. All my Italian dreams came true at these destinations... We had the best and most expensive Aperol Spritz of our lives at "Ristorante Strainer", very worth it for the views, quality and vibe. We finished off the day dipping in the sea of the glimmering beach of Baia di Paraggi for sunset and ended up there for hours. If that doesn't help convince you to visit this part of Italy.. the pictures most definitely will. The scenery, the villages, the people I got to meet and photograph and the confidence I left there with.. GOLD... our Italian Riviera.
